So Close!

Two more days, and three more hours of conferences and this girl is on Spring Break.  In the last three weeks, I have navigated my sophomores through thier state tests, have graded 4 sets of practice essays, taught my freshmen how to make a real works cited (not on easybib.com), almost gotten them through their first persuasive essays for class, gotten articles ready for the next issue of The Bagpiper (Tattler if you're a Longinotti) so we can layout after break, taught my journalism students to do a photo cutout, finished girls basketball season without going insane (8 girls who have never touched a basketball before 6 weeks ago does not make for a competitive season), managed to win one game, and get within three points on two-huge accomplishment, and navigated the joy that is the high school conference.

This girl is tired and ready to have a vacay!

Hmm, maybe a trip to the zoo should be on the list!

I will spend the beginning of break relaxing with the fam at home and doing some reading for fun, and knitting, then mom and I are heading to Seattle on Thursday to visit family and have some fun.  On my list are getting a tattoo from Pete, delivering some books to four of my favorite little cousins, knitting with Aunt Sue, and helping set up the booth for Paradise Fiber.  Should be a great couple of days.  Happy Spring everyone!

A Wednesday video...just because

Last week was a bit crazy, so my kids didn't get a Friday video.  To make up  for it, I will be showing this video tomorrow... I absolutely love this kid! Go Zags!

Pick me ups

Something must be in the air because I've been hearing from quite a few former students this last two weeks.  I had a pop-in from Chris, a student who I taught my first year at Freeman (2001) for those of you keeping track.  He was home on leave and wanted to let me know how he was doing.  Then, I got the nicest compliment from one of my alums (Max- who's now a camera man for Q6) on Thursday about how I've been a positive influence on so many students' lives.  Then today, I woke up to the sweetest Facebook message from one of my students, Devin, who graduate a couple years ago (Katie immediately pointed out that it was probably due to posting about Max's message on FB, but I don't care).  It is nice to know that what I do does help my students even when they don't want to do it, even when they hate reading and writing, and especially after HSPE testing week which is by far my most stressful week of the school year.  So thanks to all of you for reminding me that in the midst of it all, you are why I do this, and there is a positive impact even when I'm being a battle-axe.

Miss L, I just wanted to send a short message to thank you. You were amongst my best teachers throughout high school. And although English doesn't quite convert into my career path, I owe you for something. My work ethic. You were the first teacher to push me to a point of stress. Stress to work instead of being lazy. And I kept that with me. I've gotten this far and I'm going to excel like crazy because I was taught right. I just figured I should let you know. You really do impact us kids a heck of a lot more than you may think.

Colie Ann, age 6 months

I got to do a photo shoot today with Miss Colie Ann Frieberg.  Caris decided it was time to get some real baby photos now that her girl can sit up and roll over.  We got through three of the outfits mama had picked out (if you count diapers only as an outfit).  CAF did a great job till the end, when she decided she'd had enough.  Of course, I sort of love he screaming baby pics.  :)

New tattoo

One of my extremely talented freshman students shared with me last October that she wants to be a tattoo artist when she graduates from high school.  This, of course, got us talking about tattoos and I shared with her that I wanted to get a new tattoo of a Celtic Cross.  My sweet little Carlee surprised me with a beautiful rendering of a Celtic Cross for my birthday this week.  It is so lovely.  I know she's going to be one talented artist when she grows up :) She only made me promise that she gets to see the tattoo when I get it.  Fair enough, Carlee.  One tattoo coming my way soon!
