Caleb-age one

I took some pictures of my friend Lindy's 1 year-old this weekend.  Caleb is getting so big! He's starting to walk a little (with help) and has three teeth in.  He just turned one last week.  We had so much fun in the backyard with Caleb's truck.  This was his first playing outside experience, and the weather couldn't have been nicer, although I'm not sure that Caleb really liked the prickly grass! GU game

Sister Katie was able to score us some tickets to the GU women's game tonight.   It was so fun watching the girls play.  They are phenomenal! It was also wear pink night in honor of Breast Cancer awareness.  Sadly, I wasn't aware of this fact and wore red, but it was fun to see all the pink in the house.  The GU girls came out with pink warm-up shirts and Coach Graves sported a pink shirt and tie.  Even the refs got in on the action with pink whistles!  Thanks for the fun evening Kato.  I had such a great time!

Avenue Q

Katie and I joined some friends last weekend to watch Avenue Q.  I've been wanting to see this show for some time now, even though puppets aren't usually my things.  It was everything I expected it to be: irreverent, funny, sarcastic, sweet.  A great look into our society and the struggles facing us in adulthood.  Plus, it's hard to go wrong with a show with songs like "The Internet is for Porn," "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist," and "I Wish I Could Go Back to College."  It's definitely not for the meek, but the show will keep you laughing throughout the span, often leaving you feeling just a little bit inappropriate.  I highly recommend checking it out if it's in your area!

Housesitting

Sorry for the long delay in posting my friends. I've been house-sitting since Friday and I didn't have any internet access while there. Not that it would have been a huge difference, since I have nothing of real excitement to report, but it didn't help!

My friend Tracy took a trip to Mexico with her mom, so I agreed to hang out with her sweet dog Murphy so he wouldn't get too lonely. We had a lovely long weekend together, when I wasn't hanging out with friends in town for Sean's funeral. By far the best part of sitting for Tracy is her bathroom! I got to lounge in her lovely bathtub while reading and relaxing. I haven't felt so relaxed in quite some time. Today, I'll be heading home. Definitely looking forward to sleeping in my own bed!

The talented Jocelyn Brown

My sweet cousin Megan's best friend Jocelyn is an incredibly talented photographer.  Seriously, I'm addicted to her site (This & That-linked on my sidebar), and am constantly in awe at what her eye sees.

So yesterday, I decided to see what pictures she had posted of Megan, Ryan and their daughter Hadley because I wanted to add a Prentice picture to our photo wall at the house.  Joc not only quickly sent me three of her favs, but she insisted that I take them without paying a penny.  Such a gift Jocelyn! I am telling you all right now that should I ever be lucky enough to get married, I am hiring this girl to do my photos.  I love everything about what she does!!!! I am printing out this B&W photo for the wall.  But it was a hard choice as I also adore the colored one below which Meg and Ryan used for this year's Christmas card.

pick-me-up

Yesterday, I was asked to sing at Sean's memorial on Valentine's Day.  I do love to sing, and my voice isn't bad, but I have to admit, I'm a bit terrified to do this.  Mostly, because I'm not sure I will be able to make it through a couple of the songs we are thinking about doing without crying.  However, I love Sean and Dawn, so I am going to go into this with my head held high, and tears at bay.  I invited a few of my camp buddies to join me in the singing, as Dawn specifically requested Camp Cross songs for the Communion.  As hard as it will be, I know it will be joyful to offer up some of their favorites for the service. 

In the meantime, I am a little sad thinking about Sean and the upcoming funeral, so I needed a little pick-me-up in my day.  I changed my computer background at school to this picture I took last summer to help bring a smile to my face throughout my day.  Hope you like it too.

Senior Night

Last night was senior night at the HUB for our HS teams.  Even though it's been three years, it still feels a bit strange to watch a game and realize that I'm not coaching at the HS.  I don't miss the super-long season, but I do miss the girls and the comraderie, and the excitement of this time of the year when the girls are getting ready to compete for a shot at state.  Here are a couple of shots that I took last night's game and senior recognition.

My boys

Since mom asked for it, here's a little something for my b-ball team.  They won their first game on Monday, by 12 points even.  Now as you all know, I'm a fairly competitive person, so my ego has been taking a little bit of a bruising this season, as we've lost a few games (three so far).  I am very dedicated to making sure all of my boys play as evenly as possible, and since I mostly have a team of wrestlers trying to learn basketball, we lose quite a bit (pretty much everyone else plays their best players as much as possible).  I'm OK with it though.  It's been fun teaching them, and watching them learn the game.  The last two games, I've even seen glimmerings of actual basketball! And luckily, I have wonderful parents who are so excited to see their boys playing, and constantly remind me that their boys are doing great.  Today, they told me how impressed they are with my patience with the boys.  I'm glad that I carry that off because in the inside, I'm a little furious when I have yelled the same thing 5 times.  :) Ah, but I do love them!

One of my JH girls offered to take some pictures for the school paper.  I gave her my camera and here are some shots she took.  Abbie did such a great job! And the boys (in blue) look like real basketball players!

After by Amy Efaw

So I started a new book this week, After by Amy Efaw. I heard about it a couple months ago, and have been dying to get my hands on it. During my big book buy for my classroom, I picked it up. Even though I haven't quite finished it, I couldn't wait to put it up on the book blog! The story picks up with Devon, our main character, home sick from school. We learn by the end of the first chapter that she has given birth to a baby that she put in the garbage can near her house, and can't remember any of it. The story follows her as she is taken to jail and put on trial for attempted murder. So riviting! I can't put this book down, and I imagine you will find it as spell-binding as I do.
