So summer has officially begun for me. We have successfully made it through staff training and have our first kid camp today: Mini-camp. We have 17 campers who are going into 2nd and 3rd grades for the next 3 days. This may be my favorite camp. They are just so fun and full of energy!
We had a first during staff training; the Idaho department of Ecological Quality and their partners from the Coeur d'Alene tribe. We are partnering with them to help maintain Loff's Bay and gather water information for them. Our goal is to try and detect Eurasian Millfoil in our bay early, so we can contain its spreading in the lake. We will also be taking water and chemical samples every week. They even installed a new weather station for us on the point, so you can get lots of great info about the weather and what not online! Four of their members came out for a day of staff training to teach us how to use all the fancy equipment and how to do chemical tests on the water. It was like being back in Ed and Gert's classes (a little chemistry and a little biology). I remembered how much I love science. It was a fun day, and everyone is super excited for the partnership and to share everything with our campers. Here's a couple pics from our staff training!
